Dr. Walter Bartnikowski, Colonel, US Army, retired, ""Bart"" of Winston-Salem, NC, died March 29, 2012. He was born April 16, 1923, to Walter and Anna Bartnikowski in Syracuse, NY. He was a retired dentist and had lived in Winston-Salem since 1983. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons, NC, and a past president of the Holy Family Seniors. Colonel Bartnikowski enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and was commissioned in 1950. He spent his life in the military in the service of his country that he loved, and in private practice in Baldwinsville, NY. He graduated from Niagara University and the University of Buffalo, with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. He was a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS. He was a past president of the DAV in Canandaigua, NY. He was an avid gardener who loved to share the fruit of his labor with his neighbors and friends. He cherished his late wife Victoria, whom he married November 28, 1946. He is survived by his son Walter Bartnikowski, daughters Nancy Rheingold, Barbara and her husband Ed Cunnings, Vicki Bartnikowski, and Mary Bartnikowski. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Tim and his wife Tracey Rheingold, Christina Rheingold, Chris and his wife Trish Cunnings, Anthony and Paul Cunnings, Aaron and his wife Jessica Kramer, David and Kevin Kramer, and Wolf Price. He will also be missed by 6 grandchildren, Justin, Caitlin, Eddie, Tessa, Tiana and Teddy, along with several nephews and nieces. A Memorial Mass is being held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 2 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Brian Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Arrangements are being made through Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home. ""A sincere thank you to the Hospice Team that helped my father for months till his last hour - God Bless you all"".
