Douglas Wilson Speaks has gotten his wings and has left this earth for his Heavenly home. He entered the Kingdom on Thursday, July 28, 2016. He leaves behind his beloved wife Mary Elizabeth Mecum Speaks of 63 years. He had three daughters, Donna Elizabeth Speaks Wagoner (Bobby), Debbie Speaks Boles, Denise Lee Speaks Moore (Morris) and a son, Douglas Michael Speaks (Trish). He had six grandsons, Timothy and Mark Wagoner, Joseph Boles, Matthew and Christopher Moore and Robert Speaks and his precious granddaughter, Kathryn Moore. He had six great-grandsons, CJ, Casey, Gabe, Garret, and Josh Wagoner and Bash Speaks and three great-granddaughters, Alexzandrea Boles and Katie and Cheyenne Wagoner. He is also survived by his sister, JoAnn Cornatzer (Roy Lee) and his brother, Harold Gray Speaks (Vinnie). He loved all of them so much as he believed in a close family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and loved family gatherings. He was born on March 27, 1935 in Forsyth County. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Toy Lee Speaks, Jr. and Eugene Speaks and his great-grandson, Tyler. He loved life and often said he had done everything he had wanted to do and had been everywhere he wanted to go. He told us not to cry for him, but rejoice for him, but we will miss him greatly. He was devoted to his family and they to him. He did miss his friends at R. J. Reynolds when he retired after 35 years of service, but had more time for his beautiful wife and devoted family. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A private funeral service will be held on Monday at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Eric Tang officiating.
