SMITH - KING Mr. Douglas Bernard Smith passed away Monday, July 30, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born on June 30, 1943 in Stokes County to Dovie Joyce Smith and the late Owen Samuel Smith. Mr. Smith was a member of King Christian Center. He loved to sing and brought inspiration to others through his beautiful voice. Mr. Smith loved taking trips to the beach with his family. In addition to his father, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Smith. Surviving are his loving wife, Gay Smith; three children: Tammy S. Moody, Connie Smith and Anthony Smith; five grandchildren: Kayla, Dylan, Hailey, Chloe and Eden; mother, Dovie Smith; three brothers: Norman (Linda), Steve (Bonnie), and Randall (Linda); three sisters: Kay Marshall (Ken), Angie Walters (Ronnie), and Sharon Bowen; and also, a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Crestview Memorial Park with the Rev. Randall Smith and the Rev. Ken Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Melanoma Research Foundation, PO Box 759329, Baltimore, MD 21275-9329.
