Rural Hall- Mr. Douglas Gwyn Payne, 75, entered eternal life with his Lord and Savior on Sunday June 25, 2023 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on September 14, 1947 in Forsyth County NC to the late Bobby Lee Payne and Hazeleen Duggins Payne. Doug graduated from South Stokes High School and attended Appalachian State University before joining the US Navy. He was stationed aboard the USS Saratoga and transferred later to the Admirals Staff for the remainder of his tour. After his discharge, he continued his education on the GI Bill and graduated from Guilford College. He retired from the NC Department of Revenue with 25 years of service. Doug was an avid lover of all sports for his entire life. He coached his son’s baseball and basketball Little League teams and was a previous member of the Deacon Club at Wake Forest University. In fact, his boys were named after a couple of basketball players that were constant visitors in his home. He loved his family with all his heart and of course, his two boys were the apple of his eye. Doug is survived by his wife, Carolyn Franklin Payne; two sons Scott Payne (Silvia) and Bradford Payne (Lisa), four grandchildren; Abigail, Isabella, Connor, and Campbell Payne, a sister; Susan Kapps (Tim), a special niece; Misti Binns (Sean), a special great-nephew Christopher Binns, and his best and favorite companion, Honeybee. A celebration of life will be held 2:00 PM Friday June 30, 2023 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Rev. Pat Dixon officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association. 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
