Douglas Franklin Patterson

On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Douglas Franklin Patterson passed away peacefully and confidently into the arms of Jesus as he was surrounded by family. “For this God, is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end.” Psalm 48:14

Doug's heart was his wife, Dee, of 57 years that he met on a blind date that was arranged by her cousin. When his two children were young, Doug, built a home with land enough to allow the children each to have a horse, treehouse, and a swing over a pond. As a devoted father, he was present for ballgames, piano/dance recitals, parent-teacher conferences and school events. He continued this devotion with his grandchildren as he attended extra-curricular, church and school activities. His children and his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

During his career, with the Corp of Engineers, he was involved in the cleanup and rebuilding after many natural disasters including floods, tornadoes and hurricanes. The Department of Army presented him with several medals for Achievement for Civilian Service. Doug was instrumental in building dams to make the Arkansas River navigable and provide hydroelectric power to Arkansas residents.

Some of his favorite things were hunting and fishing with his son, playing horseshoes with friends, twirling his wife on the Square-Dancing floor, and watching the Arkansas Razorback games with family.

After his retirement from the Corp of Engineers and moving to Winston Salem, NC where his daughter and family lived, Doug fulfilled his retirement goals of traveling with his wife throughout the United States in a RV exploring the National Parks and Historical Sites. He built a workshop and spent many happy hours building things for his family. Another enjoyment were the years he volunteered to deliver pharmaceutical needs to the customers of Robinhood Family Pharmacy...he had the nicknames Boss Man and Pops.

Doug married Dee on March 24, 1967, in Little Rock, AR and they have two children, Bliss and her husband, Gunar Stowers of Holden Beach, NC and Lane and his wife, Heather Patterson of Little Rock, AR. He leaves behind his five grandchildren, Gage (26) and Aubrey Stowers (21), Braelyn (18), Brody (16) and Finley (13) Patterson of Little Rock, AR. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ric and Cindy Thomas of San Antonio, TX.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Little Rock, AR at a later date.

He loved and was well loved.
