Dorothy “Dot” Mae Threadgill Spruill was born on September 23, 1936 to the late Howard and Minnie Hill Threadgill. She departed this life on Friday July 8, 2022 at her beautiful home in Stokesdale, NC.
Dot lived in the Stokesdale Community her whole life. She went and graduated from Laughlin High School. Dot was a life-long member of the Oak Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Stokesdale, NC. She was active with the Ladies Auxiliary and sang in both the Mass Choir and Women’s Choir. Dot loved to share her creative talents with others through her drawings, floral arrangements, calligraphy pieces and many other crafts. Dot was also known for being a great seamstress, outfitting her children throughout their lives.
Dot was married to Jaycee Spruill for 54 years and to this union they had a blended family of 6 children. During those years, she worked at a dry cleaner in Kernersville. Then she worked at Vicks Chemical for some years. After leaving Vicks Chemical she decided to become a full-time mother to her beautiful children. After some years she returned back to the work force and was employed at AT&T Technology (General Dynamics). After 20+ years of employment at AT&T she decided to retire. Dot was a very dedicated and hard-working woman.
Dot had a true passion and love for cooking and baking for her family. Her children reminisce about her Sunday dinners. They were a highlight in the Spruill family house growing up. Everyone had to quote a bible verse and you couldn’t repeat what another sibling already said. Sunday dinners always consisted of fried chicken, green beans, mac and cheese and peach cobbler. Whenever anyone came to the house you could always smell the sweet scent of her amazing dishes, whether it be corn bread, squash, cabbage or even okra fresh from the garden. Please don’t get us started about working in the garden, while she “supervised” from the yard.
Dot was preceded in death by her mother Minnie H. Threadgill, her father Howard Threadgill, her first husband Nathaniel King, her brothers Leonard Threadgill and Bobby Threadgill, her daughters Shelia King and Noelle Chandler, and her grandchildren Stephanie Chandler and Logan Spruill.
Dot was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Those left to cherish her memories: husband Jaycee Spruill, son; Mark (Margaret), daughter; Valerie, son; Duane, and son; Bradford “Brad”. Eleven grandchildren: Shameka, Delbert “Chad”, Victoria “Vicki”, Deja, Mark Jr, Matthew, Christa, Mitchel, Taylor, Aaron, and Selina. Eleven great grandchildren: Makayla, Diego, Nicholas, Eboni, Aiden, Arianna, David, Michael, Cameron, Ava, and Ariel. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
