Dorothy Templeton Sparks, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at her home. She was born July 27, 1917 in Winston-Salem, NC to Doc and Sallie Templeton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tom Vanhoy, her second husband, Eugene Sparks, her brothers, John, Carl, and Ralph Templeton and her sisters, Grace Speaks, Yetive Bolin, and Lutelle Matthews. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Tulbert (Jim); her granddaughters, Kathy Chapman (Rich) and Carol Strickland (Roger); her great-granddaughter, Jamie Chapman; her brother, James Templeton and her sister, Nancy Martin. She worked as a hairdresser for many years before graduating as a nurse (at the top of her class) from FTCC. She worked as a nurse for over 20 years providing excellent care for her patients. She was passionate about gardening and working with her flowers. She received Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age and faithfully followed his word. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 1:00pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Brother Ben Streett officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park on Peters Creek Parkway. The family will receive visitors Wednesday from 6:00 - 8:00pm at the funeral home. A special thanks to Physicians Home Health and Hospice of Winston-Salem for their dedicated care of Ms. Sparks and her family. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Hospice.
