Dorothy ""Dot"" Cook Martin, beautiful, dedicated, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012. She was born in Virginia, February 2, 1921, the daughter of Jim and Maggie Cook. She spent her childhood years in Fieldale, VA, moving to NC in 1937 when she married her husband of 74 years Haran R. Martin, who preceded her in death, February 25, 2011. Dorothy worked in the Mayodan Mill before she and her husband moved to Winston-Salem during WWII, where she worked in the Carbon Plant while he served in the Army. After the war, Dorothy became a stay at home wife and mother. She loved cooking for her family and keeping her home clean and beautiful, and especially loved tending to her flowers. She also loved her dogs and cats, and even the raccoon that she fed every night. She was a member of the Clemmons VFW Ladies Auxiliary for many years. Dorothy will be remembered for her beautiful smile, and her ability to make people laugh, even when she wasn't well. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother, Maggie P. Tuttle, her step-father James T. Tuttle, three brothers; Warren Tuttle, Carl Kiser and Claude Cook, three sisters; Drusilla Dooley, Sadie Costella and Myrtle Lafoon. Surviving are one daughter, Wanda Martin, two sons; Bucky and Dennis (Barbara) Martin, seven grandchildren; Terri, Ricky, and Kenny (Kelly) Gilley, Marty, Jason and Tyler Martin and Kimberly (Marty) Slate. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and the nieces and nephews who loved her. The family wishes to thank the many caretakers at Springwood and Mallard Ridge Assisted Living and Hospice of Thomasville for their kindness and caring shown to our dear mother. Visitation at Hayworth-Miller on Silas Creek Parkway will be from 6pm to 8:00pm on Monday, September 10, 2012. A graveside service will be held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel in Clemmons at 2:00pm Tuesday, September 11, 2012 with the Dr. Jon Smith officiating.
