Dorothy R. Joines

Dorothy R. Joines, 86, of Winston-Salem died peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Trinity Elms Health & Rehab in Clemmons. She had been in declining health for several years.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Dot spent more than 50 years as a registered nurse, most recently at Novant Health Medical Park Hospital where she retired in 1997. She also had worked as an emergency room nurse-a field in which she excelled-at what is now Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and at Wilkes Regional Medical Center in North Wilkesboro.
After her retirement, she helped to organize the Health and Wellness Clinic at Bethany Baptist Church where she volunteered to nurse patients without access to health care. She was supported in that calling by her husband of more than 64 years, Bert Joines, Sr., who set up and broke down tables, stretchers and equipment.
Born in Belmont, N.C. to Beulah P. and Fred Ramseur, Dot was the sixth of eight children raised in Catawba County. She graduated from Davis Hospital School of Nursing in Statesville in 1952, where she received the award for ""Best Bedside Nurse.""
Dot was a lifetime Lutheran and a founding member of the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany in Winston-Salem, where she and Bert Sr. were extremely active. In addition, they were charter members of the Lutheran Church of The Atonement in Wilkesboro and Christ Lutheran in Elkin/Jonesville.
Dot is survived by her husband and loving caregiver Bert Sr.; daughter Myra Joines and husband Don Laiken of Matthews; son Bert Joines, Jr. and wife Janet of Apex; granddaughter Ashleigh Joines Dobbins and husband Tom of Apex; grandson Christopher Joines of Apex; sister Geraldine and husband J.A. Harbinson of Charlotte; and brother William Ramseur of Terrell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Ruth Faison, Irene Queen and Mildred Hewitt; and brothers Fred Ramseur Jr. and Richard Ramseur.
The family wishes to thank Ted Toborg, M.D., for his years of skillful care and for his friendship; the staff and physicians of the ninth floor of Novant Health Forsyth Medical
Center; and the staff of Trinity Elms Health & Rehab for their tender and compassionate care in the final days of her life.
