Dorothy Elizabeth Hedrick Barney

BARNEY- Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Hedrick Barney died January 1, 2009 at the Elms at Tanglewood in Clemmons, North Carolina. She was born August 30, 1918 to the late Robah Gray Hedrick and Della McGee Hedrick. She was of the Baptist faith. She attended the Winston-Salem public schools and retired from Hanes Hosiery (Sara Lee) after 40 years of service. Her husband of 62 years, Thomas Junior Barney, preceded her in death in 2000. Mrs. Barney and her husband enjoyed RV'ing and camping for as long as their health allowed and made many lifetime friends during their camping trips. She also enjoyed making crafts, continuing until her final months, winning a ribbon at the Dixie Classic Fair at age 90. Also preceding her were her two brothers, Everett R. Hedrick and R. Gray Hedrick, and two sisters, Georgia H. Pass Wolfe, and Helen H. Hedrick, and an infant great-grandson, Dillon Thomas Kuroda. Surviving is a son, Gary W. Barney (Doris) of Advance, two granddaughters, Amy B. Cates (Mike) of Greensboro and Jill B. Hutcheson (Jay) of Lewisville. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren who will miss their Granny, Joseph and Matthew Hutcheson and Jessica Spinale and a brother-in-law, W. J. ""Bill"" Wolfe of Winston-Salem and numerous special nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, January 5, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Michael Waters and the Rev. Clint Branch officiating. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Sunday at the funeral home. The family extends special thanks to the staff at the Elms at Tanglewood and to Hospice & Palliative Care Center.
