Doris Mozingo Yates

WINSTON-SALEM-Mrs. Doris Mozingo Yates, 81, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Brookridge Retirement Community. Mrs. Yates was born on April 28, 1933 in Duplin County, NC to the late Lafayette P. Mozingo and Rella Lee Moss Mozingo. She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1951 and went on to graduate from Flora McDonald College, now a part of St. Andrews University. Doris married Carl Lawrence Yates on September 1, 1957. Doris started her career as a home agent in Forsyth County in the 1960's. Following her time as an agent, she moved into the field of education. She taught 4th grade at Edgewood Christian School as well as classes at Forsyth Technical Community College and Davidson County Community College. In her later years, Doris spent most of her time volunteering and most recently for the clothing closet at Green St. United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Lorine Loyd. Mrs. Yates is survived by her son, Arthur Kyle Yates and wife, Terri of Welcome, NC; her daughter, Miriam Lee Yates of Winston-Salem; granddaughter, Catherine Isabelle Yates of Welcome, NC; brother, Ernest Mozingo and wife, Thelma of New Bern, NC; two sisters, Betty Brown and husband, Gilbert of Goldsboro, NC and Catherine Lowder and husband, Jack of Manning, SC. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Ardmore Baptist Church with Dr. Don Gordon and Rev. Ty Talton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Brookridge Retirement Community for their faithful, compassionate and dignified care they provided to Doris.
