WINSTON-SALEM-Doris Ransom Walker, 82, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born December 5, 1926 in Forsyth Co. to the late Howard and Eva Motsinger Ransom. Mrs. Walker's youth was spent in Lewisville. Her working career consisted of 20 years as an inspector at RJ Reynolds. Later she was well known for her cooking and baking skills through her work as a cook for the Gospel Light Baptist Church Camp in Hillsville, Virginia; and as a cook for Joy Ranch Children's home in Woodlawn, Virginia. She could always be counted on for a cake and yeast rolls for the Church-wide Minister's conferences. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jackie Walker. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Drewy Walker of the home; two sons, Michael D. Walker and wife Judy of Winston-Salem, and Jerry Walker of Kernersville; one sister, Mrs. J.C. (Carlton and Robena) Crim of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Roberson and the Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday, May 22, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel and at the home of Jerry Walker in Kernersville.
