Doris Kathleen Tucker

Mrs. Doris T. Tucker, (82), of Lewisville, died Saturday, January 9, 2016. Mrs. Tucker was born in Forsyth County, NC, the second of five children of the late Walter Claude and Mary Emma Nelson Tucker. She married James Calvin (J.C.) Tucker, Jr. in 1958, and together they raised their two children, Kathy and Calvin. For many years, Doris cared for two other children, Trey and Chrissy Davis, while their parents worked. The Davis family has remained a loving part of her extended family. Doris was an extraordinary homemaker and cook. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings and loved traveling to visit her grandchildren. She planted and tended her small vegetable garden and enjoyed sharing its bounty. She made many beautiful quilts - products of her excellent sewing skills. For several years, Doris worked at Brookridge Baptist Retirement Home in Winston-Salem. A 1953 graduate of Lewisville High School, she enjoyed revisiting her classmates at their many reunions through the years. She was often seen cheering the Wake Forest basketball team at their home games. Mrs. Tucker was a long-time member of Boyer's Chapel Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She is survived by daughter, Kathy D. Tucker, of the home; son, J. Calvin Tucker III (Deb) and grandchildren, Austin, Emma and Ellie Tucker, all of Summerville, SC; sisters, Marie T. Pegram and Betty H. Lanning (Guy); and brothers, Jerry W. Tucker (Mary Anne) and Jim D. Tucker (Joy). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Mr. James Percival and Mr. Jerry Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Boyer's Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:00 AM prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Boyer's Chapel Church of Christ, 798 S. Peace Haven Road, Winston-Salem 27103, or Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem 27103.
