""Her Children Arise and Call Her Blessed"". Proverbs 31:28.
Mrs. Doris (Eugene Bobbitt) McBride, 89, of Clemmons, NC, peacefully departed her earthly home to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in her eternal home on April 14, 2015. She was born on April 18, 1925 in Forsyth County, daughter of the late Lewis Richmond Gentle and Kathleen Eva Murphy Gentle. She was a 1944 graduate of Reynolds High School. Mrs. McBride married Eugene Bobbitt McBride, Jr., at the Jacksonville, FL Naval Base Chapel on June 30, 1945 and for a short time she was a civilian secretary for the armed forces. Incidentally, she had the pleasure of signing her husband's discharge papers from the Navy prior to their marriage. They made their home in Winston-Salem, NC, their hometown, where Doris embraced her life as a devoted wife and mother and took pride in her cherished role as a homemaker. She was a skilled seamstress and made many clothes for her children. She was a traditional southern cook and baker and enjoyed her days in her kitchen whistling and singing while she prepared meals for her family that she loved so dearly. She carried out every homemaker's task with great love and joy in her heart. Doris exemplified a Christian woman for whom she made God the center of her life and loved serving the Lord. She was very active in her church and community. Singing was a great joy in her life. She and her husband sang in their church choir for nearly 60 years, they served as leaders of the senior's group for 10 years and she served as a lay deacon for 10 years. They grew a puppet ministry and performed with the youth group. She truly cherished the friendships she made over her lifetime and the special fellowship with her church family for decades at North Winston Baptist and Northwest Baptist Church. Mrs. McBride is predeceased in death by her husband of 69 years, Eugene B. McBride, Jr., three brothers Richard, Bob, Harold, and a sister Carolyn Ratcliff. She is survived by a sister, Millie Plemmons. Also, surviving are three daughters and one son, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Diane and Lee Smith (Allison); Kathy and Sam Dotson (Bradley and Tina Dotson, Carrie), (Gena and Ron Hargis, Eva, Avery, Ellison and Mary Bryce); Jennifer and Rich Cavanaugh (Drew) and Brad (Jason and Julie McBride, Julianna and Connor), (Darla Gutshall and Emma), Caleb and Joshua McBride. A celebration of life service for Mrs. McBride will be held Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Northwest Baptist Church, 407 Petree Road, W-S, NC 27106. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 12:45 pm in the church parlor. Interment will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park on Yadkinville Road.
