Doris Roberts Hoots passed away peacefully on June 23, 2016 surrounded by family in Duluth, Georgia. She was born in Madison-Mayodan, North Carolina on November 16, 1921 to Lucy and Gene Roberts. She attended Gray High School in Winston-Salem where she met her lifelong sweetheart, Herman Gray (Jack) Hoots. After being engaged for the duration of World War II, they were married on August 30, 1946. During the war, she supported the war effort by working in the War Department's Office of Flying Safety in Winston-Salem. At the conclusion of the war, she worked at the Veteran's Administration until the birth of her first of two sons in 1956. After that, she became a loving homemaker and worked part time at the Jack Hoots Insurance Agency for a number of years while raising her two boys. Doris was an active member of the South Fork Church of Christ until relocating from Winston Salem to Pawley's Island, South Carolina where she lived with her eldest son for several years. She was an avid gardener and loved raising roses. She was also a tremendous fan of baseball and enjoyed watching her two sons play during their younger years. She loved her morning cup of coffee and, in more recent years, would often be heard singing aloud and joyfully at her assisted living facility. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 1981 and is survived by her two sons, Van and his wife Paula, of Duluth, Georgia, and Kent and his wife Stacia, of Park City, Utah. She was preceded in death by her two siblings, Maxine Smith and Swanson Roberts in 1978 and 1992 respectively. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
