Mrs. Doris Scott Henderson, 85, passed away March 20, 2009. She was born February 1, 1924 to Louise and Fred Scott and was raised in Greensboro, NC. Doris was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She was always there in time of need. She was a very strong woman and when others would have failed she succeded. She worked for Telephone and Answering Service as a PBX Switchboard Operator and also worked for Hanes Hosiery in Winston-Salem, NC. Mrs. Henderson owned and operated Jack and Jill Nursery and was called ""Mama Doris"" by all. Later she moved to Russell, KS where she owned and operated The Country Squire Motel until she retired. In Kansas she was a member of the VFW Auxillary and The Eastern Star. In Winston-Salem she was a member of The Auxillary of the Elks. After retirement, she moved back to Winston-Salem, she later retired to Southern Pines, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husbands, Fred R. Clenney, Gray Hedrick, Jack R. Henderson; a son, Larry R. Clenney; two brothers, M.L. Scott and Reese Scott. Surviving are a daughter, Freddie Marie Leonard, son-in-law, David, whom she lived with in her final years; a son, Fred (Rusty) Clenney; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and a special partner and sole mate, Wilbur Reed of Atlanta, GA. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Chap. Paul Mullen officiating.
