Doris Strupe Brame

Mrs. Doris Strupe Brame, 92, of Winston-Salem, NC passed into the more immediate presence of her Savior at Piney Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Kernersville, NC, on June 18, 2023.

Doris was born on February 8, 1931, in Forsyth County to the late Ellis R. and Pearl Whitman Strupe. She graduated valedictorian of her class from South Fork High School in 1949 receiving the D.F. Stillwell Scholarship Award for having the highest four-year average as a senior and the Civitan Award. In 1988, she also earned a Pre-Liberal Arts Degree, graduating with honors from Davidson County Community College. Just after high school, she worked for the Forsyth County Clerk of Court in accounting where she met and married her loving husband, Richard O. Brame Sr. They were married on Valentine’s Day of 1953. Later, she worked several odd jobs, but was treasurer for Fairview Moravian Church for several years.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Richard O. Brame Sr.; her brother, Richard G. Strupe (Lois); and her precious dog, Maggie.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Robert R. Strupe (Delores); daughters, Susan Kilpatrick (Rich), Laurie Black (Ray), Lois Cheek (Greg), Sara Kearns (Randy); son, Richard Brame Jr. (Marie); grandchildren, John Kilpatrick, Jennifer Kilpatrick, Andrew Cheek (Amy), Amy Cheek, Anna Cheek, Bryan Bundy, Cori Kearns, Kyle Sample, and Erik Sample; and great-granddaughter, Artemis Cheek.

Doris was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother to her family. She never knew a stranger. She encouraged others with a friendly smile, blowing a kiss, sending a card or offering a loving hug to her friends and family. She had a great love for animals and was always accompanied by pet dogs in her home. She also enjoyed working in the flower garden and yard when she was able. She enjoyed Vacation Bible School at her church and helping the children with crafts. Over the years, she also gave generously from her limited income to charities focused on improving the lives of underprivileged children.

A funeral service will be held at Fairview Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, NC on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 2:00pm with Pastor Tony Hayworth officiating.  Visitation will be in the church parlor at 1:00pm, prior to the service. Burial will follow at God’s Acre, Salem Moravian Graveyard.

The family would like to thank the nursing team and staff at Cadence Assisted Living of Clemmons, Piney Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Kernersville, and Cardinal Hospice Care of Winston-Salem, all who took special care of her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairview Moravian Church Women’s Fellowship, 6550 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
