Doris "Johnnye" Davis Bailey

Mrs. Doris ""Johnnye"" Davis Bailey, 88, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014.

Johnnye was born July 18, 1925 in Forsyth County to the late John Henry Raymond Davis and Mattie Whitman Davis. A resident of this area for her life, she graduated from Old Richmond High School and Draughns Business College. She was a longtime member of Cottage Street Church of Christ and enjoyed watching all kinds of sports on TV. Above all else, Johnnye loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Cornelius Bailey, Jr., and daughter, Paula Transou Bailey.

Johnnye is survived by sons, Raymond Bailey and wife Judy of Centreville, VA, Robert ""Bob"" Bailey and wife Maria of Dracut, MA, and Michael Bailey of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Barbara Lomenzo and husband Jim, Bryan Bailey, Matthew Bailey, and Andrew Bailey; great-grandchildren, Ryan Lomenzo and Josh Schwade; nieces and nephew, Sheri Carter, Kelly Hinsdale, and Ewell Hinsdale; cousins, Roy Whitman, Peggy Angell, and Bobbie Crissman; daughters-in-law, Diane Bailey and Ellen Bailey; and granddaughter-in-law, Betsy Schwade.

A celebration of Johnnye's life will be held Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11 am at Boyer's Chapel Church of Christ with Mr. James Percival and Mr. Jerry Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 6 - 8 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
