Mrs. Donna Johnson Newsome, 62, of Clemmons passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born February 16, 1947 in Sampson County to Albert Campbell and Evelyn Benton Johnson. Mrs. Newsome was retired from Stroh's Brewery with 28 years of service. She was a member of Friedberg Moravian for 24 years and an active member of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of the Triad, Inc. Mrs. Newsome was instrumental in establishing the Logos Youth Ministry at Friedberg Moravian Church and took an active part in bible studies at Clemmons United Methodist Church after moving to Clemmons. She was an active volunteer and student mentor at Clemmons Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her father and a grandson, Nathaniel Paul Dixon. She is survived by her husband, Ron Newsome; a daughter, Farrah Dixon and husband Christopher; two grandchildren, Campbell and Kenan Dixon; her mother of Clinton, NC; a sister, Ruthie Pope and husband Terry; two brothers, Gene Johnson and wife Barbara and Billy Johnson and wife Karen and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Friedberg Moravian Church with Rev. G. Thomas Shelton and Rev. Jimmy Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends 6-8p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
