Donald O. Smith Jr., “Jr” as he was known to all, 53, of Mocksville, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, after a brief illness.
Jr. was born Oct. 31, 1967, in Davie County, to Joyce Tucker Smith and the late Donald O. Smith, Sr. He attended Davie County Schools and had been an EMT in Davie County and a truck driver. He was involved with the Smith Grove Fire Department, from the junior firefighter program to chief. Jr. loved fishing and his friends and family.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph. Surviving are his mother and her partner, Donald Miller, of Mocksville; sister, Cindy Smith Charest (Scott), of Mocksville; his daughters, Jessica Garrison (Alan) of Winston-Salem, Kera Smith (Josh), of Mocksville, Misty Smith and Emily Smith, both of Mocksville, Hannah Smith of Winston-Salem; step-daughter Megan Bradsher of Winston-Salem, bonus daughter Ashley Potts of Mocksville; two grandchildren, Ellie and Shelby; two nephews, Jacob Charest of Charleston, SC and Nathaniel Charest of Huntersville.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 6-8 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Smith Grove Fire Department, 4155 U.S. Hwy. 158, Advance, NC, 27006.
