Donald "Don" Fisher Maner

Mr. Donald Fisher Maner, 77, of Winston-Salem, died peacefully on January 22, 2021, following an illness.  Born February 10, 1943, to Fisher Bernard and Wilmetta Carter Maner, he was raised in New London, NC.  He graduated from NC State as a Mechanical Engineer and was employed by RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. for his entire career, taking great pride in his work and the company’s accomplishments during his tenure.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and particularly looked forward to an annual fall fishing trip to Hatteras, NC with a colorful group of church friends.  He loved spending time on a tractor or mower and was an accomplished woodworker who consistently underestimated his skills.  In addition to being a long-time member of Ardmore Baptist Church, he was a member of the Twin City Kiwanis Club, becoming the de facto caretaker for the club’s pancake grills used for their annual fundraiser.  He volunteered many hours at South Little League while his boys played, serving as President for a period and facilitating several facility improvements still in use today.  Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Martha Morgan Maner; two sons, Charles Maner (Kimberly) of Lewisville, NC and Robert Maner (Cheryl) of Columbus, MS; and two grandchildren, Parker Maner and Rebecca Maner.  He is also survived by two sisters, Hazeline Lisk (Jim) and Barbara Biggers (William), both of New London, NC, in addition to nieces and nephews.  He was a big man with a big personality and someone you would remember if you ever met him.  Don was a supportive husband, father, and grandfather with a loving heart and spirit who was loved by all.  Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at the Marshville City Cemetery in Marshville, NC, officiated by Rev. Ty Talton.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Don to Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller Street, Winston-Salem, NC  27103.  Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mr. Maner.
