Donald Curtis Wombaugh

KERNERSVILLE-On February 11, 2009, Donald Curtis Wombaugh went to meet his Lord. He was born September 29, 1945 in Forsyth Co. Upon reaching his 17th birthday he joined the US Army where he served on active duty for over 20 years. After leaving active duty he served the next 23 years in the US Army's retired reserve. During his tenure with the military he served numerous tours in South Viet Nam as an infantryman. He was a friend to the Masons, a Knights Templar, and a Shriner. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5352 in Kernersville. During his life after military he was a benefactor to many charities including local chapters of the Crisis Control Ministries and the Shepherds Center. During his adolescent years he attended school at Kernersville Elementary, Oak Summit, and Mineral Springs High School. He is survived by several brothers who are also veterans of the Army and Navy; three sisters; and two children. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 pm, Friday, February 20, 2009 in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
