Donald Algie Stewart

Donald “Don” Algie Stewart, age 79, passed away peacefully with his wife Linda by his side at Brookridge Retirement Community on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

Don was born January 5, 1945 and raised in Sanford, North Carolina to the late Algie and Frances Stewart. After completing High School, where he excelled academically while also playing basketball and baseball, he went on to earn a degree in Accounting from East Carolina University. After obtaining his CPA license he went to work for LA Reynolds for several years before opening his own CPA practice, where he earned his reputation as a “workaholic” that treated everyone honestly and fairly. Because he had an easy-going personality, a fun sense of humor, a quick-wit and was quick to laugh, many of his clients became life-long friends outside of business. Don enjoyed helping people, and for several years volunteered mediating for couples going through divorce.

Don loved his family, and enjoyed playing golf and fishing with his dad, sons and friends. He and his wife Linda enjoyed traveling, as well as enjoying the company of those he loved. He also enjoyed cooking elaborate meals alongside his wife Linda for friends and family.

Don had a strong faith in God and was a member of First Baptist on Fifth Church in Winston-Salem, where he served as a Deacon, Head of the Finance Committee and Assistant Treasurer.

Don is survived by his wife of 28 years, Linda Stewart, his sons Greg and Doug (Jodi) Stewart, his grandchildren Ethan, Adam, Isabelle and Scott, his sister Kathy (Levon) Cameron, his Uncle Jimmy (Wyatt) Stewart, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as many others he considered part of his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM Friday, January 19, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, with Reverend Emily Hull McGee officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist on Fifth Church, 501 W First St., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
