Donald William Stafford

KERNERSVILLE-Donald William Stafford, 79, a loving husband, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at his home. He was born February 3, 1932 in Forsyth Co. to the late John Lewis Stafford, Sr. and Pearl Fields Stafford. Mr. Stafford was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church but, had many connections at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church. He retired after many years from R.J. Reynolds as a factory supervisor. His greatest accomplishment at R. J. Reynolds was being an international trouble shooter. Donald was a United States Navy veteran, district magistrate for Forsyth Co., a real estate appraiser, and worked at Edward's Hardware. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Andy, Jake and Hiram Stafford; four sisters, Dot Tilley, Shirley Matthews, Mae Dilliard, and Polly Davis. Surviving are his wife, Carol B. Stafford of the home, one sister, Kay S. Crews of Kernersville; one step-son, Ivan Bradley Pechtel of Kernersville; one step-daughter, Sara Pechtel Borka of Spotsylvania, VA; four nieces and nephews, Buzz Crews (Teresa), Kelly Larrimore (Johnny), Skip Boyles (Pat) all of Kernersville, Flip Matthews (Linda) of Goodyear, AZ. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Cash officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Interment to follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103. The family expresses sincere thanks to his loving caregivers, Amanda Larrimore, Layla Hartness, and Debra Riley, also the supportive staff of Hospice of Forsyth Co.
