Donald Ray Sloan

Donald Ray Sloan, 73, of Lewisville, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at his home. He was born May 30, 1938 in Forsyth County to Joseph Bard and Callie Mae Binkley Sloan. Mr. Sloan has been in the ministry for the past 42 years serving in Forsyth County, Rowan County, Davidson County, NC and Patrick County, Virginia. Next to his family, spreading the Lord's divine word was his passion for life. He loved hunting rabbits with his beagles and his family. He also was a talented woodworker, making anything for his family and enjoyed building bird houses. He also loved working in his garden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Lee Sloan. Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Lillian C. Sloan of the home; three daughters, Donna S. Bailey of Lewisville, Deana S. Frye and husband Steve of King, and Deedee S. Bowen and husband Todd of Lewisville; a son, Dwayne Sloan and wife Wendy of East Bend; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Lee Bailey (deceased), Jean Chan and husband Francis, Jamie and Travis Sloan, Danielle Frye, Mackenzie and Sloane Bowen; three great grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua and little Francis ""Wilbur""; five sisters, Mable Rivera of Virginia, Ruby Johnson of Davie County, Phyllis Tedder of Davie County, Margie Adams of Winston-Salem, and Sandra Peeks of Clemmons; and one brother, Dennis Sloan of Rowan County. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 11 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Mr. James Percival, Mr. Jerry Williams, and Mr. Aaron Blackard officiating. Burial will follow at Church of Christ at Ketners Cemetery with Mr. Steve Johnson and Mr. Lawrence Warden officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 10 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kate B.
