Donald Ray Scott, 81, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born January 11, 1928 in Denver, Colorado to the late Charles Harold Scott, Sr. and Mildred Tomlin Scott. Mr. Scott graduated from Colgate University and later pursued a Masters in Economics at the University of Vermont. He was an eternal optimist and was an animal and people lover. Mr. Scott retired as a Naval Aviator. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his loving children and grandchildren. Mr. Scott loved sailing, gardening, lifelong fitness, and taking part in the Senior Olympic games. Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Della D. Scott of the home; two daughters, Karan Scott Proulx (Steven) of Madison, Connecticut, and Robin Gail Scott, DVM and her partner, Marion Youngblood of Hillsboro; son, Donald Ray Scott, Jr. (Ann Meletis) of Mt. Ulla, NC; three sisters, Pauline S. Anderson of Orlando, Florida, June S. Thompson of Rockville, Maryland, and Joanne S. Zeoli of Brandon, Vermont; brother, Charles H. Scott, Jr. of Washington, NC; four grandchildren, Geoffery Scott Proulx, Kathryn Elizabeth Proulx, Euripides ""Rip"" Donald Scott, and Nicholas Harold Scott; also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and his beloved dog ""Rusty."" A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, December 21, 2009 at Ardmore United Methodist Church on Hawthorne Rd. with Rev. Kari Howard officiating.
