Donald Minor Phlegar

Mr. Donald Minor Phlegar, 77, of Winston-Salem passed away, Friday, July 15, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Phlegar was born in Roanoke, VA to Delbert Wade and Evelyn Kasey Phlegar on January 25, 1934. He was a veteran of United States Navy serving in the Korean Conflict on the S.S. New Jersey. Mr. Phlegar was a member of Twin City Baptist Church and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 29 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Phlegar was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Frances M. Phlegar. He is survived by two sons, Gregg Phlegar and wife Alison of Ahoskie, and Mark Phlegar and wife Penny of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Justin, Steven, and Scott Phlegar, and Lauren, Ryan, and Chelsea Pierce; two sisters, Lois Ann Perdue of Salem, VA, and Becky Roop of Roanoke, VA; and his two favorites, Little Bit and Raymond. A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 pm Monday at Parklawn Memorial Park, with military rites provided by the VFW, District 11, Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm, prior to the service, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Parkway. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 9010, P.O. Box 601, Clemmons, NC 27012.
