Donald George McCormick, Sr.

Mr. Donald George McCormick, Sr. age 81, of King passed away Monday, August 19, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mr. McCormick was born in Surry County, November 18, 1931 to Wade Beamer McCormick and Ora Creed McCormick. He was a servant of the Lord and a faithful member at First Baptist Church in King. Mr. McCormick served as Deacon, Teacher and was on staff as Minister of Evangelism/Outreach at his church. Mr. McCormick was an Associate Engineer at Lucent Technologies with 37 years of service. He was a graduate of Mt. Airy High School the class of 1949. Mr. McCormick will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCormick was preceded in death by one sister, Norma Crane. Mr. McCormick is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy McCormick, one daughter, Lynn (John) Young of Lowgap, two sons: Donald George (Glenda) McCormick, Jr. of Pfafftown and David Lee (Debbie) McCormick of Pinnacle; eleven grandchildren: Heather, Brooke, Leah, Valerie, Zane, Trey, Audrey, Luke, Zoe, Wade, and Olivia; five Great-grandchildren: Kennedy, Sofia, Camryn, Elliot and Allyson. One sister, Carrie Thacker of Mt. Airy; Three nieces and one nephew. Funeral services for Mr. McCormick will be held Thursday evening, August 22, 2013 at 6:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in King by Dr. John Wrenn and Rev. Raymond Needham. The family will receive friends following the funeral service. A private committal service will be conducted Friday morning, August 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at Skyline Memory Gardens in Mt. Airy by Rev. Yates Wilkinson. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to First Baptist Church Outreach Fund, P.O. Box 481, King, NC 27021.
