Donald Wayne Leonard

Donald Wayne Leonard, 79, of Winston Salem, Passed away early Saturday morning at his home, peacefully in his sleep.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; father Charlie Leonard and mother, Ruby Moser. Also his two siblings
are predeceased; Brother, Jay Leonard and Sister, Joan Leonard.
Don is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Luise Leonard, Two sons, Michael Anthony and Howard Patrick Leonard.
Don was blessed with and loved deeply his four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 18 and served 20 years, including tours to Germany, Korea, and two tours to Vietnam.
He was apart of the 82nd and 173rd airborne units, received merit for becoming a jumpmaster, and was awarded for being an imagery interpreter for the U.S. Army intelligence and reconnaissance.
After his retirement from the armed forced, he and his family settled in Winston-Salem near his hometown of High Point, NC.
He became a successful business owner and operator of Fabric Protectors of Winston-Salem. He enjoyed coaching his grandson's little league
baseball team as well as playing golf. His sense of humor never ceased and his laughter was contagious to all around him.
He and his wife attended St. Leo's Great Catholic Church. He was a very active member of the church and loved volunteering his time and efforts
to help others in need.
Don leaves behind many cherished memories and hearts full of love; we, the family, take great comfort in knowing that he is at peace and that we will be reunited one day.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Monday, June 6, 2016 at 2 pm at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, with Fr. Brian Cook officiating. Military honors to follow by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard, as well as a reception to pay respects and condolences to the family afterwards.
