Winston-Salem-Donald ""Don"" Eugene Ellison, 77, after 5 years of courageously battling cancer, died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1931 in Cleveland Co. to the late Thomas Jefferson and Roberta Ballard Ellison. Don was a member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church. He was a veteran, having served in the US Navy Air Corp during the Korean Conflict. He also was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, lodge 2181 in Kernersville. Don was employed by Southeast Lumber as long as his health permitted. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Hill Ellison of the home; a daughter, Jacqueline E. Moore of Memphis, TN; a son, Michael Eugene Ellison of Rogers, AK; two granddaughters, Jennifer Kuehn and husband Josh, Alyssa Ellison; four great-grandchildren, Skylar, Brennen, Braden and Ella Kuehn; two step-daughters, Kimberly Oates Caudle and husband Ron of Conyers, GA, Jami Oates Morgan and husband John of Salisbury; a step-son, James Christopher Oates of Greensboro; three step-grandchildren, Jay Caudle fiancé© Nichole Burns, Sarah and Laura Caudle; a special new great-grandson, Aidan James Caudle; a sister, Katherine Ellison Ware and husband Tony of Ringgold, GA. A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 pm Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ellis Rouse officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
