Donald A. Donadio

Donald A Donadio, age 86, of Winston-Salem, passed away October 25, 2016. He was born in Herkimer, NY to Mary and Frank Donadio on July 26, 1930. Don attended NY State A&T at Alfred University and Radio Television Institute in New York City and upon graduation joined the US Air Force in 1951. He deployed to Korea, Japan and Iwo Jima as part of the 1920th Airborne Air Control Squadron. He met his wife Patricia at a USO dance in St. Louis Missouri and they were married on October 2, 1954 and then moved to Winston-Salem in 1955. Don worked for Western Electric for 32 years before retiring in 1992 and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Joseph and Francis. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Murphy, his children Mary Nelle, Paul and wife Jan, Michael and wife Jill, Kathleen and husband Craig, Donald and wife Marianne, Thomas and wife Valorie, 18 grandchildren; Jacqueline, Sean, Brian, Katie, Lauren, Matthew, Chris, Laura, Caroline, Benedict, Jude, Francis, Maria, Sophia, Brigitta, Holli, Nicholas, Victoria and 4 ½ great children as well as his brother Bob. Don enjoyed amateur radio, electronics, history, trains, bocce with the sons of Italy, scouting, biking, walking, tinkering and fixing anything. Having grown up during the depression, he was industrious, hard-working, loyal, respectful of the environment and extremely resourceful. He was happy, interesting, interested, generous, helpful and funny. He devoted his life to God, family and country and instilled his values in his children, grandchildren and the people he knew and loved. He was a member of St Leo the Great Catholic Church and he was a 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus for 26 years. The family will receive friends at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home at 3315 Silas Creek from 6-8 PM Thursday, 10/27. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Leo the Great Catholic Church on Friday at 11 AM followed by burial at the Salisbury National Cemetery at 9 AM on Monday, 10/31. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter.
