Donald M. Coley, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Forest Heights Assisted Living Center. Loving husband of Barbara Dorton Coley. He was born in Concord, North Carolina September 10, 1930 to Charles Gilbert Coley and Nora Howell Coley of Concord. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Don was known by his family and friends as a constant source of love and support. Always willing to lend a hand or help a friend or family member in need, he was truly a man of love, compassion and integrity. He loved his family, his church, gardening, building, and travel. After high school, he served with honor aboard the supply ship Caliente in the Korean conflict. He attended North Carolina State University and graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina. Don retired from RJ Reynolds with over 33 years of distinguished service as a supervisor and administrative coordinator, while working at Number 8, Whitaker Park and the Tobaccoville Facilities. Don was among the few men in the USA who achieved the Honor of Distinguished Toastmaster. The highest award in the organization, this is bestowed on members who display exceptional communication and leadership skills. Don and his wife Barbara were Charter members of the Lutheran Church of The Epiphany. He could be found singing God's praise as a member and in the choir. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Barbara. They were together over 58 years and she provided constant love and care for him for over a decade after a serious accident. He is also survived by his sister, Audrey Lee Tucker of Concord, NC. Don and Barbara had two sons. His son Don Charles and wife Cynthia F. Coley and grandchildren Donald Thomas and Christopher Charles of Upton, Massachusetts. His son Alan Dean and wife Joyce B Coley of King, and grandchildren Justin and Kaylee and four great grandchildren Ethan, Allie, Natalie, and Jason. A celebration of Don's life will be held 2:00 pm Monday, April 20, 2015, at The Lutheran Church of The Epiphany. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8 pm Sunday at Hayworth- Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
