Winston Salem - Donald James ""D.J."" Champney, 57, died January 26, 2013. He was born in Guilford Co. on November 15, 1955 to Arlene ""Omie"" Champney and the late Richard Champney. D.J. was a brick mason for 30 yrs. in the Winston Salem area. He loved gardening and growing flowers, and working with his hands, he was a simple man who loved his children and grandchildren. D.J. appreciated nature and loved to call everyone and have them look at the moon. He was a resident at High Point Place Assisted Living for 14 months. In addition to his mother he is survived by, his four children, Kirk Champney, Shai Champney, Jessica Champney, and Sandy Champney all of Winston Salem, four grandchildren, Tony, Natalie, Mason, Aliyah, two brothers, Ronald Gerald Champney of Winston Salem, and Tom Champney ( Terri) of Advance, three sisters, Gwyn Champney of Winston Salem, Melissa Gibson (Tommy), Annette Champney Medley (Steve) of Winston Salem, and many nieces and nephews who dearly loved their uncle D.J. A Memorial Service will be conducted 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with his long time friend, Dwayne Petty officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-6:45 PM prior to the service. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to High Point Place for their excellent care and concern for our family member.
