Donald "Don" Eugene Ashby

Mr. Donald ""Don"" Eugene Ashby, age 78 of King passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Ashby was born October 11, 1935 in Jackson County, IN to Joseph Evan and Florence Hogg Ashby. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanleyville in Winston-Salem. He retired with 25 years of service from the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Ashby also retired from Douglas Battery with 17 years of service. In addition to his parents Mr. Ashby was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Mr. Ashby is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma Ashby of the home. Three sons: Joe (Amy) Ashby of Stone Mountain, GA, Kevin (Joye) Ashby of Cookeville, TN and Jeff (Gina) Ashby of Lewisville, NC. Seven grandchildren: Danny, Rachel, Amber, Jacob, Kyle, Joshua, and Joseph. One great-granddaughter, Audrey. One sister, Ellen Pattison of IN and one brother, Avis (Cindy) Ashby of IN.

Funeral services for Mr. Ashby will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall by Rev. Eddie Honeycutt. Burial will follow at First Baptist Church of Stanleyville Church Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the King American Legion Post 290. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday July 10th from 12:00 until 1:30 P.M.
