During the early morning hours of Monday, July 23, 2012, surrounded by family and friends , Donald Nadion Adams, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of Wake Forest Baptist Health. He was born in Winston-Salem, October 24, 1928 to Charlie Milton and Lula Goodman Adams. He attended White Rock Elementary School and graduated from Mineral Springs High School, Class of 1947. In the summertime, he delivered ice to homes and during the rest of the year drove a school bus. He graduated from Draughon's Business College, received two Associate Business Degrees from Forsyth Technical Community College and completed the Continuing Education Basics for Computers from FTCC. He also attended Wake Forest University for one year. Donald was employed as Accounting Supervisor in the Comptroller's Office for twenty-three years and served as Business Manager at Amos Cottage Development and Evaluation Clinic for twenty years, retiring in 1997 from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine now part of Wake Forest Baptist Health. Donald liked to watch Fox News, CSI with Mark Harmon, NASCAR and use the computer. He was a faithful member of Wake Forest University Healthy Exercise & Lifestyle Program enjoying the camaraderie and talking with the grad students. He is predeceased by his parents, a beloved family member Emil Gerald Maruca and brother-in-law James Naylor Sr., and playful cats, Tigger and Midnite. He is survived by his wife of more than fifty years, Jeannette Maruca Adams; daughter, Andrea Adams Hefner(Tony); brother, Milton Kerr Adams; sister, Mrs. Agnes Naylor; niece, Brenda Livengood(Bobby); nephew James Naylor Jr., and cousins. Donald was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 28, 2012, 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 1730 Link Road, Winston Salem, NC with Friar William J. Robison, OFM Conv. officiating. Burial to follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 27, 2012, from 5:30-7:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston Salem, NC. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 1730 Link Road, Winston Salem, NC, 27103 or Wake Forest University Healthy Exercise & Lifestyle Program, Box 7628, Reynolda Station, Winston Salem, NC 27109. The family thanks the doctors and everyone on the 4th floor ICU for their excellent care and the loving welcome given to Donald by the Palliative Care Unit at Wake Forest Baptist Health. We will miss him.
