FERGUSON - WINSTON-SALEM
Mrs. Dolores Irene Merritt ""Dee"" Ferguson, 84, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born July 16, 1931 in Forsyth County to the late Mildred Irene Vanhoy Merritt and Junius Alexander Merritt. Mrs. Ferguson was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. She graduated from Mineral Springs High School Class of 1950 and retired from Hanes Dye & Finishing. Mrs. Ferguson was known for her Sunday lunches, pound cakes, and swinging on her front porch. She adored her granddaughters and was very close with her family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ferguson was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Ferguson and her sister, Norma M. Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Patty F. Turner and husband, Ritchie; son, Michael W. Ferguson; two granddaughters, Jennifer T. Davenport and husband, Ryan of Raleigh and Tiffany T. Vazquez and husband, Rafael Vazquez-Burney of St. Pete Beach, FL; two great-grandchildren, Hannah C. and Jakob R. Davenport; and a special niece, Judy Ferguson.
A graveside service will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27 at Crestview Memorial Park, 6850 University Parkway, Rural Hall, NC 27045 with Rev. Eileen Ayuso officiating. The family would like to invite their friends and extended family to Faith United Methodist Church following the service for light hors d'oeuvres and fellowship.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Faith United Methodist Church, 1645 Griffin Road, Rural Hall, NC 27045.
