Dolly Westmoreland

COLFAX - Dolly Mae Esther Long Westmoreland, 91, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at her home. Dolly was born on January 27, 1931, in Guilford County to William and Hettie Coffin Long. Dolly was a long-time member of Smith Grove Baptist Church. She loved her family, church family and friends, and in turn, everybody loved her. Her smile lit up the room. Dolly was the best mother, mother-in-law, and best cook in the world. One of her greatest joys was being a grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her husband, Rubert P. Westmoreland; five brothers, Charles Long, Wade Long, Carl A. Long, Rev. D.W. Long, and Rev. John H. Long; a sister, Lorraine Long; and a great grandchild, Noah Westmoreland.

Surviving are her son, Dennis P. Westmoreland (Brenda) of Colfax; a daughter, Edith W. Matthews (Pastor Frankie Matthews) of Lexington; five grandsons, Robbie (Mary), Daniel (Nina), Joshua (Katie), Zachary (Mary Beth), and Nicholas (Jordan); seven great grandchildren, Lucas, Oaklyn, Hannah, Waylon, Keeley, Ayden and Adalyn; step-grandchildren, Sandy Hopkins and Allen Priddy (Beth); step great-grandchildren Sam, Jacob, Gianna, and grace; and one brother, Paul Richard Long.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Colfax with Dr. Chuck Peters and Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

A special thanks to Stephanie Moore, her caregiver for the last 2 years, as well her brother, Richard Long,  who cared for her the last 4 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Home of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
