Dollie Faye Ledbetter Smith

Mrs. Dollie Faye Ledbetter Smith of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, December 2, 2011 at Baptist Hospital. She was born June 8, 1940 in the Austin Community of Wilkes County to the late Lonnie Milton and Mabel Brown Ledbetter. After the birth of her son, who was born with cerebral palsy, Dollie committed her life to helping with the needs of children with physical disabilities. When Chris enrolled at The Children's Center in Winston-Salem, Dollie became involved in activities at the school, later becoming a teacher's assistant. She continued to work at the school until she retired in 2002. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Christopher Bradley Smith, in September of 1990. Surviving are her husband, George ""Hack""ett Smith, of the home; her son, Mark Tracy Smith, of Winston-Salem; three sisters: Betty Jean, Joyce, and Judy; and scores of special friends. The family will be holding a private service and ask that in lieu of flowers, please send charitable donations in her honor so that the legacy of her lifelong goal to help children can live on to: The Children's Center, 2315 Coliseum Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
