Diann Beckner Sweet, a loving companion, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on November 19, 2024, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
She was born on June 17, 1944, in Forsyth County, NC, to the late Virginia Sparks and Melvin Beckner.
Diann was happiest when she was busy. She worked for many years at Bank of America, and then H&R Block. She had many loyal Mary Kay customers and was a walking advertisement for the products. She was an active member of Clemmons Moravian Church where she was involved with the Women’s Fellowship, helped with Easton Elementary Ministry, the yearly candletrim, and decorating the church. Diann had a fine garden, grew beautiful flowers, and was an avid walker, covering 5 miles daily as long as her health permitted.
According to her grandchildren, "our Granny was a force.” She was headstrong but lighthearted and she always knew what to do. She had a quick wit and knew how to put a smile on everyone’s face, she will be in our hearts forever.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Christopher James Sweet and Nicole Michelle Sweet; her brother, Kenneth Beckner; and half brothers, Gray Beckner and L.J. Beckner.
She is survived by Fred Hartlage, her companion of many years; her brother, Henry Beckner; aunt, Betty Sparks Todd; sister-in-law, Lynn Beckner; nephews, Todd Beckner and Keith Beckner; grandchildren, C.J. Sweet, Peyton Covington, Jordan Covington (Lauren), and Sydnie Merriman (Tucker); and her great grandchildren, Zaiden Covington and Jace Merriman.
A graveside service will be held at Clemmons Moravian Church Graveyard, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 followed by visitation in the church parlor at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kate B Reynolds Hospice, 101 Hospice Ln, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
