Dexter Ray Butner

Mr. Dexter Ray Butner, 79, passed away Tuesday November 14, 2023, at VCU Medical Center. He was born along with his twin sister, Janie, November 30, 1943, in Forsyth County to the late Bynum Henry Butner and Sula Rierson Butner.  He was a master carpenter for over 50 years, and worked with his brothers and sons. In addition to his parents, Dexter was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonnia Gail Butner; brothers, Bynum Henry Butner, Jr., Robert Franklin Butner, Michael Dale Butner, Larry Dene Butner, Randall Wayne Butner Sr.; and his sister, Coseyetta McClamrock. He is survived by his four Children; Angela Butner Frye, Dallas M. Butner, Dexter R. Butner Jr., Derrick G. Butner; eight grandchildren, Dallas Jr., Amber, Autumn, Cody, Leah, Ashton, Brandon, Lisette; seven great-grandchildren; J.J., Hailey, Mckinlee, Axyl, Emily, Felicity, Isla; sisters, Janie Hamby, Helen Frazier, and Adelaide Palmer; and brother, Isaac Butner, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those dear friends and family members who took the time to travel to see and visit Dexter in his time of need. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday November 20, 2023, at Calvery Baptist Church of King with Pastor Kevin Broyhill officiating. There will be a private family graveside service at another time. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
