Mr. Deward Norris Lunsford, 70, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born in Forsyth County on September 13, 1938 to the late Noel Lee Lunsford and Gladys Benge Lunsford. Norris was a longtime member of Freedom Baptist Church in Rural Hall and sang in the choir as long as his health permitted. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed greatly by all who knew him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Russ and two brothers, Wayne and Weldon Lunsford. Norris is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Barbara F. Lunsford of the home, five children, Debbie Renn of Walkertown, Randy Lunsford of Germanton, Larry Lunsford of Winston-Salem, Teresa Duggins (Mike) of Walnut Cove and Kristie Williams (Tony) of Des Moines, Iowa, two step-children, Mark Canter of Winston-Salem and Lisa Pendry (Ronnie) of Kernersville, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one brother, Melvin Lunsford of Virginia. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Freedom Baptist Church in Rural Hall with Rev. John T. Byerly and Rev. Doug Anders officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening August 7, 2009 at Freedom Baptist Church. The family would like to send a special thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care Center and his nurse Luanne Flynt for the care shown to Norris during his time of need.
