Mr. Dennis James Hondros, 92, passed away Sunday morning, June 12, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. He was born in Fidakia, Karpenisi, Greece on May 1, 1924 to the late James Hondros and Panayiota Giannopoulos Hondros. Dennis immigrated to the United States in 1951 and began his career washing dishes. After years of hard work and saving money to bring the rest of his family to the United States, Dennis finally opened his first restaurant Chicken in a Basket, which was located on Fourth Street. Dennis opened two other restaurants over the years, Cup and Saucer Cafeteria, which was originally located on Main St., before being relocated to Church Street and eventually retiring from Akron Drive Restaurant in 1996. He was a very loving father, grandfather, and friend. Dennis was selfless, always giving and never asking. He loved his church (Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church), his church family, and the community that they served. Dennis was preceded in death by two brothers Nick and Steve Hondros; and grandson Justin Stutts. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann Thompson Hondros; children Debra Stutts, James ""Pocky"" Hondros (Pam), and Penny Cox and fiancé Chad Noell; grandchildren Tyler, Joshua, Evan, Nicholas, D. J. and Lucas; siblings Katherine Paloumbas, Voula Zourzoukis (Steve), Soula Kontos (Gus), Chris Hondros (Nicky), and Bessie Stabolitis (John); and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dennis is also survived by his loyal friend of 30 years Chris Pritsis (Maria). A visitation will be held on Monday, June 13, from 7-8:30 PM at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, with a Trisagion service at 7:30 PM. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Father Demetri Kangelaris officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
