Delores "Dee" Hutcherson

RURAL HALL – Delores “Dee” Hutcherson, 80, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Forsyth Medical Center. Dee was born on November 19, 1942 in Danville, VA to Marvin and Katherine Fowler Ferguson. Dee was a faithful member of Beck’s Baptist Church, serving on several committees and volunteering in many areas. She especially loved working with the children’s choir.  Dee owned Old Town Beauty Salon for over 35 years, building a community of clients that she served through generations, for their special occasions and all facets of life.

After retiring as a cosmetologist, she shared her love for children working as a Preschool Teacher at Kingswood United Methodist Church for 15 years - lovingly known as “Mama Dee”.  Her genuine compassion and care for others was incredible. Dee was a born caregiver – caring for multiple family members - never sparing her love and time to make sure they had everything they needed. She loved her family dearly and was a great source of strength. She was blessed as an only child to marry into a large family with loving in-laws, whom she adored.

Dee loved being outside, working in her flowers, but also enjoyed cooking and entertaining in her home. Decorating was her specialty, sharing that talent with many others. Dee loved travelling, shopping, and spending family time at Belews Lake, but loving on her precious grandchildren was her favorite pastime, and never missed an opportunity to be with them.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Joe Hutcherson; a son, Todd Hutcherson (wife, Vickie); a daughter, Sherri Chambers (husband, Derek); two grandchildren, Sydney and Brock Chambers; many special cousins, extended family members, and close friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Beck’s Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beck’s Baptist Church – General Fund, 5505 Becks Church Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall is assisting the family.
