Delmont Bates Jr.

Mr. Delmont Bates, Jr., 71, passed away at his home on July 27, 2018. He was born on October 24, 1946 to Jeanette Allman Bates and Delmont Bates, Sr. in Forsyth County. Delmont was a member of the first graduating class of Parkland High School. He retired from Tyco Electronics. He enjoyed football, cooking, playing his guitar, and his time spent at Goose Creek in Newport, NC. In addition to his parents, Delmont was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy Scott and Michael Todd Bates. Surviving are his loving wife, Kathy Martin Bates; son, Jeff Bates (Angie) and daughter-in-law, Amy Bates; grandchildren, Lauren Slate (Brandon), Anna and Destiny Bates, Ian and Brandon Bates; great grandchildren, Carter and Charleston Slate; sister, Shelby Spaugh (Carol); special niece and nephew, Denise and Jimmy Speas; and his fur baby, Toby. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 29, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Greg Boyd officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 4550 Montgomery Ave., Ste. 1100 N, Bethesda, MD 20814.
