Delma Gray Hicks, (85), of Winston-Salem, North Carolina suffered with multiple strokes and advanced dementia passed away on Monday March 27th, 2023 at Trellis Supportive Care (Kate B. Reynolds) Hospice Home.
Delma (a twin to one of his 17 siblings), was born to Nonnie & Jim Hicks, on December 27, 1937, in Mt. Airy. He is retired from Reynolds Tobacco where he worked as a machinist for over 30 years. After retirement he had a tree cutting business and he also enjoyed spending most of his time working on his farm in Clemmons, NC raising cattle.
Aside from his hard work ethic, he served as a member of the North Carolina Masonic Lodge in Lewisville NC. He was an active member of the Moose Lodge in Winston-Salem NC. Delma and his wife Joann also enjoyed hosting annual Chicken Stews, traveling, shag dancing and playing cards with their close friends at the Moose Lodge.
Delma is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Joann of the home in Winston-Salem, his 3 sons Jeff Hicks, Dale Hicks and Keith ( wife Wendy) Hicks and two beloved grandchildren Taylor Deann Walden ( husband Nick and a great grandchild) of Greenville NC and Austin Gray Hicks of Raleigh NC. Delma leaves behind his beloved dog Coco who he treasured during his last years of life.
The Family would like to thank all the members of the Trellis Supportive Care Team at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home and South team who cared for him in his last weeks of life.
A funeral service will be conducted 12:00 Noon Friday, March 31st at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with burial directly following at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons NC. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trellis Supportive Care
