Mrs. Dell M. Jarvis Johnson, 86, of Winston-Salem died Friday, November 5, 2009 at her home. She was born May 6, 1923 in Forsyth County, the daughter of the late Amos and Sudie Zimmerman Jarvis. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Salem Baptist Church and was retired from Hanes Hosiery following 32 years of service. She enjoyed bowling and was in the Winston-Salem Bowlers Hall of Fame. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Johnson, two sons, Fred W. Johnson, II and Rex K. Johnson and a daughter, Trudy D. Johnson. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda J. Vogt and husband, Ken of Mocksville; one grandson, John Contos and wife, Lori of Mocksville; one grandaughter, Wendy J. Myers of Winston-Salem; four great grandchildren, Samantha Contos, Sarah Contos, Gray Myers and Chandler Myers; and three sisters, Hallie Redmond of Mooresville, Thelma Hammons of Kernersville and Helen Mendenhall of Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 PM at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway.
