Delia Dee Douglas Mattocks

Delia (Dee) White Douglas Mattocks, formerly of Rose Hill, NC passed away March 6, at Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Mattocks was born October 26, 1917, to Dewey Connor and Jettie White Douglas of Iredell County. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Noland Randolph Mattocks, brother Bobby Douglas, sister Ruth Jacokes, brothers-in-law Alec Johnson, George Mewborn III and Fred Mattocks, and sister-in-law Annie Lois Mattocks. Dee graduated from Winthrop College and taught hundreds to sew, cook, and create a home in her Home Economics classes for 20 years within the North Carolina public school system while teaching at Swansboro, Harrells, Chinquapin and Wallace-Rose Hill High Schools. She was a devoted and active member of Rose Hill United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities during her more than 45 years of faithful stewardship. She also was named Lay Person of the Year and received the Faith of God award. Her loving family and many friends will miss her wonderful caring ways, strength of character, and constant love and support. Her family includes two daughters, Beth Teachey of Wilmington and Cathy Liner of Winston-Salem; two sons, Randy Mattocks and wife Mary Brown of Bermuda Run and George Mattocks and wife Debbie of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Julie Teague (Gary) of Kure Beach, Jo Teachy-Jackson of Wilmington, Marc Liner (Sabrina) of Charlotte, Jason Liner (Melissa) of Raleigh, Emily Mattocks of Atlanta, and Noland Mattocks, III of Bermuda Run; a step-granddaughter, Jessica Ezzell of Cary; three great grandchildren, Austin Teague, Harris Gray Mattocks and Chase Liner; a brother J. W. Douglas (Nan) of Statesville; a sister, Polly Johnson of Union Grove; a sister-in-law, Cornelia Mewborn of Snow Hill, and many cherished nieces and nephews. The family is especially grateful for the loving care Dee received from her wonderful caregivers at Arbor Acres and Hospice. A funeral service will be held at Rose Hill United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM, March 9 with Rev. Paul Stallsworth Officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 10-11, prior to the service.
