The world lost a ray of sunshine on March 4th, 2018, as Debbie Goodman Blackburn, 57, of Oak Ridge, NC, left her physical body to rejoice, celebrate and dance with our Heavenly Father, her mother, brother and friends. A day she has looked forward to for many years.
Cherished Wife, Mother, Nana, Sister and Friend to many, Debbie was born in High Point, NC on December 28th 1960 to the AMAZING Millie Mickle. Over the past 57 years, Debbie touched the lives of many as she never met a stranger and everyone held a special place in her heart. She found the good in everyone and had the heart of a servant, always helping others. Debbie took great pride in gardening, her home is surrounded by the most beautiful roses known to man. Debbie was a true southern bell, she never left home without perfect eyeliner, red lipstick and a spritz of her favorite fragrance. Debbie was a mean cook, KFC couldn't touch her fried chicken, and she could melt your heart with her Fried Apple Pies and Tater Tot Casserole. You never left her kitchen hungry or underweight, it made her heart happy to feed her family.
Debbie loved the ocean, sand between her toes and wind in her hair. She looked forward to summer vacations with her entire family each year. As long as the sun was up you couldn't drag her way from her beach chair.
Debbie was married to her soul mate Jimmy Blackburn on July 27th 2002. They enjoyed grilling steaks, dancing in the kitchen, watching movies and spending time with their grand kids. She spent her time being a homemaker and taking care of her family.
Debbie will one day reunite with her loving husband, Jimmie; three beautiful daughters, Andrea, Chantae and Erica; the lights of her life, her eight joyous grandchildren, Shayla, Jared, Ben, Millie, Haven, Nicholas, Cole and Landon; one newborn great grandchild, Noah, her grandmother, Nellie; brother, Garland and other family and friends.
We will celebrate her life on Wednesday, March 7th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Hayworth Miller in Kernersville, NC. The funeral will be privately held on Thursday, March 8th for immediate family.
