David Henry Wilcox III

Mr. David Henry Wilcox III, 88, passed away on August 3, 2024, in Winston-Salem. He was born on May 8, 1936, to Stella and David Wilcox II, in Kingsport, TN.

Dave earned his degree in chemistry from Wake Forest University in 1958 and soon after married the love of his life, Jane Carol Austin of Winston-Salem, on June 28, 1958. Following his graduation, Dave served as an Army Lieutenant in Smithfield, VA, where their son, Michael David, was born. The family then embarked on a three-year assignment in Okinawa, Japan, where their daughter, Laura Kay, was born.

In 1963, the family settled back in Winston-Salem. Dave built a successful career at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and RJR International, where he held a financial management position until his retirement. During his tenure, he furthered his education by obtaining a master’s in business administration from UNC Greensboro. His beloved wife, Jane, preceded him in death in February 2023, after 64 years of marriage.

In his final year, Dave resided at Brookstone of Clemmons. He is survived by his son, Dr. Michael David Wilcox of Charleston, SC; his daughter, Laura Neal, and her husband, Mark, of Milford, MI; his sister, Jan Whittle of Winston-Salem, NC; two grandsons, Carter Wilcox of Charleston, SC, and Dylan Neal, and his wife, Natalie, of Detroit, MI; and his great-granddaughter, Evelyn Kay Neal.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, officiated by Rev. Emily Hull McGee.
