David Leland Smith

Mr. David Leland Smith, 55, of Clemmons, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born August 18, 1955 in Guilford County to Winford Leland and Mary Jean Wardell Smith. Mr. Smith was a graduate of Allen Jay High School in 1973 and received a Bachelor of Music Degree at UNC-G in 1977, and Master of Music Degree at the University of Illinois in 1980. He served as Music Director at Christ Covenant Church in Greensboro and Reynolda Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem and was co-owner of Favor & Smith Painting Company. Numerous lifelong awards, accomplishments and interests included baseball, private pilot, comedian and creator of www.youcanbefunny.com, member of the Greensboro Symphony and the Burt Massengale Orchestra. He was preceded in death by his father. Surviving are his wife, Jane N. Goodman-Smith; two daughters, Rachel and Natalie Smith, of the home; a granddaughter, Audrey Smith; his mother, Mary Jean Smith of High Point; and a sister, Carol Hanes of Archdale. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May13th at River Oaks Community Church in Clemmons with Pastor David Beaty and Pastor Richard Little officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 12th at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
